Stumphole Closed Again This Morning

Published on September 12, 2008 by Sherri Dodsworth under Beach Renourishment, Cape San Blas, FEMA, Forgotten Coast, Indian Pass, Port St. Joe

7:40 a.m. – The Sheriff has re-closed Stumphole this morning as waves continue to break over the rocks. High tide is at 8:30 and there is hope they can reopen Cape San Blas Road to traffic after the tide subsides later on this morning. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything new.

Yes, it's open to local residents and guests with reservations. Since there are still waves splashing over at high tide (which is at 10 a.m. this morning) if you don't have a 4-wheel drive you may want to hold off until later this afternoon to come on out. The weather is great so come on down!

Coastal cottage is at 4171 cape san blas drive (small green cottage) maybe a mile from stump hole. Would love to be there to see the surf but that's as far as i would go also. Pic's are amazing ,the lighthouse is our favorite area probably won't recognize it in october as we plan to come then. Can't believe ppl are actually surfing in that water, i've seen tree's wash up along with other large object's that would hurt on top of the rip current's. Hope that's it with bad weather for awhile. Have a great day !!

I'm glad you like the blog. Ike has had stronger waves and wind pushing literal walls of water across the gulf coast. I'm not familiar with Coastal Cottage - do you remember where it was located on the Cape? The bay is only slightly high today - NOWHERE near what we had yesterday, so we're getting back to normal. Still really windy, and I wouldn't want to be out on the bay as it's still very rough, rolling waves and whitecaps. Not my idea of a good time! There's a full detailed explanation of the beach restoration program on their excellent website, www.savethecape.com .

Hi so glad i came across your blog ! Ike seems to be a bit more destructive than gustav was to stump hole area. Why didn't they start south and work up with the beach restoration? We come twice a yr the last time in may hardly any beach at that time stayed at costal cottage the dunes there are so beautiful wondering how badly they have been damaged? Can't believe how high the bay side is too.Hope it ends soon.
