A Personal Note to My Readers

Published on January 27, 2022 by Sherri Dodsworth under Cape San Blas

I have always maintained there is an art to knowing when to leave a party. In early 2020, just as we were all trying to get our heads around coping with Covid, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a condition about which I knew nothing at the time. In the past two years I’ve learned that to live well with PD requires a lot of time and effort. After 27 years as a Cape San Blas area Realtor and 15 years of writing this blog, the disease has now progressed to the point where I can no longer physically meet the daily demands of working in real estate so, reluctantly and regretfully, I must admit it is time for me to leave this party I love so much.

Over the years, I’ve cherished my relationship with you, my readers. My goal has been to have the weekly post out no later than noon on Saturday, and on the rare occasion I missed that deadline, I would inevitably start receiving some emails asking if I was ok, would I be posting later? I learned that reading my weekly update was a regular part of many readers’ Saturday morning routine.

Because of that loyalty, I couldn’t just pull the plug on the blog and let it go. There is also a significant body of local history within its pages. For example, the entry on 10/12/2018 when I posted in the uncertain immediate aftermath of Hurricane Michael.

So, on a bright note, rest assured your weekly blog updates will continue. Today I am passing the baton to and entrusting my friend and fellow Coastal Realty Realtor Chris Petrie with officially taking the helm as of January 28. Chris brings 20 years of local real estate experience as both a Realtor and as former Owner/Manager of the Turtle Beach Inn, experience I know he will put to good use at CapeSanBlasBlog.com. He is highly respected by his clients, customers and fellow Realtors. Superlative writing is among his skills, which in this business translates into eye-catching listing copy and sales. (I have to confess, no one writes better listing copy than Chris). I know you will enjoy reading his informative posts as he keeps you up-to-date on sales activity in our red-hot real estate market.

To reach out to Chris, call or text him at 850-899-8765 or send a note to [email protected] .

Thank you so much for following my blog. I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing it to you and know that I am leaving you in good hands.

Sherri you not only sold our first home but lead us to find the perfect lot for our future home. Throughout all of this, you became a friend. Your knowledge of the area is second to none. Thank you for your blog and friendship.

Thank you, Karen. It's seems strange to say I've enjoyed 'working' with you when in fact we have always had so much fun together! Thank you, too, for introducing me to so many of your fun friends over the years. My best of luck to you in your latest adventure.

So sad to hear about your illness Sherry. Tom and I have looked forward to and enjoyed "The Blog" weekly forever it seems. Organizing all the data and photos every week is like editing and printing a small town newspaper. You have done a super amazing job of it. We have had the opportunity to follow the real estate market in our little part of Eden on Treasure Drive since its inception. Thank You for so many years of dedication to a demanding task. Wishing you peace and contentment in the years ahead, Dee Paton and Tom Knoche

You and Tom have indeed been following my updates for quite some time - all the way back to when I mailed out the monthly Xeroxed newsletter I launched in late 1994! One of the first articles back then was "What Lies Ahead After Opal". Time flies, doesn't it? Thank you for your kind words, and your friendship over the years. Fond memories of bunco and the ladies' luncheon. My best always to you both.

We are sad to hear you are leaving. My stepmother is going through the same struggles, they are not easy. God bless you, thanks for the blog and the kind way that you treated everyone. Kim Harmon, Beach Realty

Precious Sherri~ We are saddened to learn anything could halt you from doing what you love and which you excel. Of course, we will continue to follow this blog, your gift of information about CSB over so many years, and the reason I found my dream property. You are completely responsible for my lifetime dream of owning beachfront property come true... something dear to my heart, and never will be forgotten. As you, our friend! We pray for miracles, and God's healing hand on you. And very much look forward to the day we will be neighbors. Blessings, Colleen

Colleen, becoming friends with you and Bill and helping you find your dream beachfront has been such a wonderful journey. You have both wanted to be here for so long, but life sometimes just doesn’t respond to our preferred schedules and we have to wait. So looking forward to the day you can finally build and be here where your heart is. Very much appreciate your prayers. Blessings to you both as well. Sherri

In reply to Dotty Sutter. Thank you, Dotty. I’ve taken as a great compliment how you have contacted me throughout the years as a trusted source when you have needed an answer to a real estate question. Feel free to continue to run things by me when you need some info! Always happy to help. And thank you for your prayers – always appreciated. My best to you. Sherri

Sherri, Michael and I appreciate the tireless hours you have invested writing this amazing, informative blog. We have been enjoying your blog for many years, and yes, usually the blog is our Saturday read during morning coffee. Our journey started out renting on the Cape, and like so many people, we became hooked and bought property (we own in Seagrass, Sunnyside Up Vacation Rental). We love watching the real estate trends and you have done a great job giving us a bird's eye view. We are so grateful for you Sherri and we look forward to reading what insight Chris will bring to the table. Yours warmly, Fran and Michael Scheel
