Cape San Blas Oil Spill Update

I am hearing from a lot of people who are torn over whether they should plan on visiting or cancel their vacations here at the Cape as a result of the oil spill. So far the Forgotten Coast has been blessed and it continues to look as if the spill will stay away from the Florida coastline for some time. My family has reservations for the cape the week of June 21st. Are we going to be able to enjoy the beach? Go fishing? Please let us know. we do not want to drive for 13 hours and be able to do nothing. Have several children from ages 12-5...

The most honest answer I can give you is no one knows when the oil may reach here and to what extent. Yesterday it was reported to be located 80 miles from Gulf County. Overnight, the wind shifted and starting blowing the oil away from us. That wind pattern is forecast to continue through the next several days. I am not aware of any forecasters making 14-day predictions. The bay is being totally protected and should be fine regardless for swimming, snorkeling, boatng and fishing so I hope you and your family will come visit us and have a wonderful vacation.
