I’m in Orlando this week attending the Florida Realtor’s Mid-Winter Business Meetings and the one recurring topic of many of our seminars and briefings is updating us on various aspects of the Federal Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 in general and its impact on Florida in particular. On Friday afternoon, I attended a Realtor Town Hall forum which included a panel discussion on flood insurance discussing new FEMA maps, new challenges and proposed solutions. Panelists included U.S. Congressman Dennis Ross, State Senator Jeff Brandes, Florida Director of Emergency Management Bryan Koon, Florida Floodplain Manager Joy Duperault and Florida Realtors Senior Vice President of Public Policy John Sebree. Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam, delivered the keynote address.
I’ll return next week with my weekly real estate market review, but wanted to share with you some of the insurance info I’ve gathered here because it’s one of the topics I spend a great deal of time helping people understand when they’re shopping for coastal properties. Here’s a link to info that will answer a lot of questions we’ve all had about these changes. Biggert Waters Act 2012 Impact on Florida.
Thanks so much for stopping by today and please be sure to check back next weekend when I’ll bring you up-to-date on what’s moving in our market. In the meantime, bundle up and keep warm!
